3.19.08 - Really sad day for me ladies...

So, how do I even begin?? I guess I start by saying that unlike most of my posts, this one won't be filled with LOL's or laughs and giggles, but I do need to let you all know that there have been some big changes for me recently. Some really good and some pretty sad...

If any of you have looked to purchase my kits from Digital Candy today you realize by now that I am no longer there. I resigned today both in support of a dear friend of mine and because I no longer felt that DC was the right place for me. I need to be surrounded by people whom I can trust and admire...this is no longer the case at Digital Candy not from an administration standpoint anyway.

For those of you new to my blog, you may not "know" me well...but for those of you who have been with me from the start, I hope YOU do know that for the most part I'm pretty easy going, pretty "go with the flow" kind of gal, and I try and keep a really positive attitude.... but my heart was broken by how things were going at DC and I could no longer stay.

Without going into great detail (as that would, frankly, be unprofessional) I can tell you that after the current owner of DC summarily decided to end a partnership with her co-owner and partner at the site (Kami), then refused to pay this fabulous lady what she owed her, and then told outright lies about her in our Designer Forum there, I realized that my hope of staying on at DC and it remaining a good and positive place was shattered.

I sent an email of resignation to the current owner as well as to my fellow designers at DC letting them know just how I felt about the treatment of Kami and the character of the woman who they now worked for, and within minutes, (and without any contact from the owner or administration of Digital Candy) my store was shut down, and my access to the forum there removed.

I knew (from the character of this woman) that I could expect no more from her but that. But nevertheless it hurt that she couldn't even be bothered to contact me directly before summarily shutting the door to DC in my face.

It's a sad day for me ladies and the drama has been high...quite a few other designers have left DC, and from the looks of things, more will be doing so in the near future. For those designers left, I wish them only the best and hope that somehow Heidi (the owner) sees the error of her ways and makes DC, once again, the place that it used to be.

In the meantime I am "storeless" and without a place to sell my current designs...have no fear though I have some things in the works, and I'll let you all know as soon as I can where my new "home" is... and my hope is that you will all follow me there and continue to support me as a designer.

After a day spent on the phone and on the computer sending emails and PM's etc. I got NO designing done, so I'm sorry, but no freebie today...perhaps tomorrow will find me a bit happier, with a bit less drama and a lot more time to work on something for you all.

As I write this though, a thought has come to me...LOL! (woo hoo...I did manage to fit one in!) I made a promise to give away one of my Digital Candy kits to 3 lovely ladies who posted some "luv" for me yesterday. Well here's the thing about that...I really believe that in this world you get what you give...and frankly...I need to "get" some good feelings after my rough day...and what better way to get that than to give...

So I'm NOT going to give a kit to 3 ladies who posted...I'm giving a kit to EVERYONE who posted...and frankly because it's waaay too much work to have each of you email me and then email you back with links to a kit... I guess I'll have to give away a kit to EVERYBODY! (wow! I feel kind of like Oprah...LOL)

So here it is...my gift to you...it's one of my smaller kits and one that I made early on, but I like it and I hope you do too... (BTW...Ignore the DC "wrapper" on it...I would have removed it if I had the time...LOL) PASSWORD: gift4you

Here's to a new day, with new hope and hopefully some new "blogging friends"

Aloha friends!

wow!! im so sorry this had to happen to you! the world is full of people who dont care what thier actions do to hurt others, and its usually the "nice" people who get hurt and screwed over. a phrase my dad used to say is " what goes around, comes around".... karma...
this lady will will someday have it all come back to her. i dont wish ill will on anyone, but it seems that this is the way it goes.i think you handled your end the correct way, and did so professionally. keep up the good work in your digi designs and good luck to you!!

thank you for the beautiful kit! what a nice surprise! i'm sorry about how the owner of DC has treated you and others. i for one will not be shopping there again. since your work isn't there, there isn't a need to anyway. :) what a wonderful person you are for putting your friend first. kudos. i hope you can find a place to sell your designs. i will surely be one to follow wherever you go. :) just remember that when one door closes another opens. maybe this means better things ahead for you. chin up!

So sorry that you are having to find a new home and that your friend was treated so badly. I hope she recoups her losses from her former business partner.

I know you will be welcomed into a new store!

You are an awesome designer with an upstanding character. You will have no problem finding a new store, and I am positive your fans will happily follow! I know I will! So sorry you are going through this, you totally do not deserve it! Thanks for another gorgeous creation!

I'm sorry to hear about the situation with DC. I haven't been over there in a few days and had no idea any of this had happened. I have no doubt that you'll soon find a new home, maybe something bigger and better! :)

I am sorry for the troubles you have run into. Gather your strength and hang in there. Or as they say in Texas...sink in your spurs and ride! I know from reading your posts you are a genuine person and although it is somewhat hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel now, good may come of this for you. Best of luck with your new ventures. Thank you for sharing your kit with us all. It looks like you have quite a following of readers and I hope you take comfort in that and gather strength from it to 'ride on'.

Altough I have not been on your site for very long, I'm sad to see how you've been treated and know that you will be great somewhere else. Thank you so much for your talent and for sharing with us:) I look forward to hearing where you'll be setting up shop! Good luck and hope you have a better day.

OH Shauna, what a horrible experience. But I totally give you props for having integrity and supporting your friend and leaving a situation that was unhealthy for you. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us. I think you are a fabulous woman, and I KNOW good things are coming your way. I look forward to many more (giggles) and LOLs in the near future!

I am a fairly new reader of your blog and love what you add to the digi scrap community. I just started DSing a couple months ago and it is people like you who have made it such a wonderful hobby. And I commend you for not letting people like Heidi get away with unacceptable, rude behavior. Thanks again for all of your generosity and not letting terrible people stop it.

Just catching up on all my RSS feeds and saw the news about the freebie, realsied I'd missed the chance and then saw this! Thank you for this gift, it is so generous of you.

Also, I am sorry to hear you are now "shop"less, but I have every admiration for you standing up for your friend, especially knowing the potential consequences. I am sure you will find somewhere to sell your designs soon, even if you do it all yourself :) Just donlt let people like this get you down, life is too short to hold grudges and oyu are a better person than that anyway:). Everything happens for a reason and this can only bring good things for you...and we'll all be there, too, right behind you wherever you go! Thanks for giving us this magnificent kit - I adore pansies!!!

Shauna,
Hang in there - your designs are wonderful, as well as your tutorials. They have been a great help to me. I'll follow you to whatever store you end up in. I'm amazed at the greed that I'm seeing in some areas of the digital scrapbooking community. It's really sad. I'm a firm believer in "what goes around, comes around."

I am sorry to hear about your frustrations. Your designs are beautiful and it won't matter which strore you use to sell them. I have no doubt you will be back up and running in no time.

Shauna dearest, I commend you for taking a stand against the unprofessional ethics on display at DC and for supporting a friend and fellow designer(s). I, have a couple of friends who design there as well, one of whom has already resigned and I'm sure the other will follow (speaking with her now).

Given your INCREDIBLE talent darlin', along with your witty charm, I have NO doubt that nothing but BIGGER and BETTER things are in store for YOU!

You are in my thoughts as the reality of what has just occurred sinks in, processes and then is put behind you as one of those life experiences that we gain from and makes us a wee bit wiser.

I, for one, appreciate your honesty and diplomatic approach to handling this atrocity in the digital scrapbooking community.

Here's to NEW beginnings and a MUCH brighter future in your designing. Hmmm ... do I see a Pineapple Plantation site in the near future? LOL! You GO girl!

Love and hugs,

Thanks so much for sharing the beautiful kit. Sorry to hear of the shabby treatment you've had to endure. I'm sure that's one less bit of stress you could use right now. I've only been visiting your site for a little while, but I have to say that I love it. I've enjoyed your stories about the seal and the lizard. I have no doubt that good things will come to you soon. There's always a silver lining at the edge of a dark cloud. Loads of hugs for you.

You know, I'm really sorry to hear that. I went through something VERY similar in the mom's group I was an admin for. For some women, power is just too intoxicating for them, and they have to wield it whenever they can to make themselves feel better. But in the end, they're the ones left all alone when everyone else gets sick of it and leaves. I'm sad to hear about the site as I really enjoyed it there. When you DO join another site, definitely let us know. And thanks so much for the freebie. It's lovely!

Shauna, I wish nothing but the best for you. Your designs and Kami's are about the ones I had purchased from DC. I am not sure how much time I will spend there if you're not one of the designers. I guess I will finish out the current contest I'm participating in and that will be about it. I was only spending time there to do the contest anyway. You will bring great things to any store that picks you up - can't want to find out who so I can head on over there. Thank you for thinking of your readers during what has to be a stressful time for you!

Thanks for sharing this lovely spring kit.

I am so disappointed by the truth that I have learned concerning DC today and I wish you all the best. I hope you and the other designers (I CT for at least one of them) find new homes to sell at soon!

Your actions speak your character! It is so easy to allow someone elses character to become the HUGE white elephant in the room. The moral ground is unfortunatly at times the lonley road, but it is so wonderful to read that you are a strong woman of strong character. I hope that I have a friend(s) like you when I need support. Good things come to good people.

You hang in there principals are what in life you will be remembered for, dollars only people will crubble over, people will follow you and you have given potention scrapdesigners the heads up they deserve to know about about a store bfore they to join and get burned. let's face it, scrapping is about creating happy memories as well as preserving them, who the hell needs attitude these days, some people got the wrong idea about what all this designer business is all about and hands up for you for speaking the truth, you should be honored for that, I think. Become an independant, if you have to at least you do not have to endure someone elses crap dont be sad, be mad!

**Clearing my throat** The sun'll come out tomorrow.... hehe Dont worry about negative people they'll soon get whats coming to em in the end. Besides if all the designers leave & take their following with them whatcha got but an empty space anyway. There's tons of cliches that basically just boil down to this, another store will snap you right up & you probably won't be homeless for long. I commend you for standing up for what you felt was right. No one should ever give up their morals & integrity for a buck. Here's to bringing the greater good back to this community. Shauna, just catching up on your blog. Wow! I am so sorry for the treatment you and especially Kami received from Heidi. I have to admit I'm a bit thrilled. I had a very rude run-in with Heidi recently and decided that I would not purchase from DC because I couldn't support a store owned by someone like her. Now you will be heading somewhere else, thus the reason I am thrilled! Things always work out for the best and I have no doubt you and Kami will both end up in much better situations. Hugs to you both!

I am fearsly loyal to my friends but have found that this is not always the case in reverse. So my hat is off to you for standing up for Kami. I too have always found out that things work out for the best. I worked at the same place for 20 years and was fired. I was devastated, but I now have a better job making more money and more room to grow and advance. God takes care of nice people so you hang in there. I will not be purchasing anything from DC either. Some people really need to come back down to earth and be appreciative of all the designers, because lets face it, if it wasn't for you guys they would have a store in the first place... sending you a big HUG

Well I want to jump in and say...Good on you Shauna for posting this. As I know for a FACT that DC is gonna be lost without Kami now. I will be happily sitting back watching that site go down. Coz Heidi aint what shes cracked out to be. She hasnt a clue on how to run her site. which is why she relies on "partners" to run it for her. Which im afraid to say, Kami is in fact Heidis SECOND EX CO OWNER! and this is within a year! Im wondering who the next fool is gonna be. Yvonne maybe?...

LOL - actually Kami is Heidi's THIRD...yes THIRD ex-partner since opening up DC...LESS than a year ago... that should say some thing! Hang in there Shauna, we all love and support you!Heidi's site will go down in flames if she has anything to do with running it for too long.

THIRD ex partner? within a year???? GOSH thats scary! HAH good luck to the designers.

OMG that is not right to kick someone off whilst still owing the person money!! Thats downright disgusting for a supposedly good honest business woman. But then again I haven't known an honest business person yet. I would have at least paid the person back the money before removing them. And it is also wrong to be involving the community (designer forum) whereas it should have been kept between them two. That is so unprofessional. I would definitely think twice about dealing in business with the owner of your ex store. I dont know digital candy as I have never been there but from what I hear I dont think I would want to go there. I wish you luck in finding another store and thank you so much for the freebie its wonderful!

I am so sorry about all the drama in your life right now!!! Must be something in the air because so is mine...

I agree with you all the way though and I truly believe that what goes around comes around. For instance, my fiance was ambushed at work by a recent hire he had made and that set in motion us starting our business. Within 6months that guy had stolen $20k and they now hire us to do their work :)

God is full of beautiful blessings - even if we can't see them right at this moment!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful kit!!!

God Bless & you'll be in my prayers :)

I really hope you get this with the amount of comments already here. When the one partner witheld money from the other partner, that's stealing. Paypal, Zencart, whatever should have records of what was purchased and monies distributed so she should know what she has coming to her with proof. And what about the contract between them? I know some $$ goes to the website itself, it's about how much goes to her. And what if she continues to sell items that belong to the designers such as yourself that were booted out? This is horrible that it has happened and myself with a couple of my E-buddies have deleted everything we have over there (one has even deleted her posts in the forums - I didn't think of that) and we have deleted our membership.

We want no part of Digital Candy

We love you and will be visiting and supporting you here often as well as wherever you go. Good luck and Happy Easter!

Unfortunately I know ALL TOO WELL what happened even though I was not at DC anymore, trust me Kami's story is true to the last detail! And yes now there have been 3, ugh! I am glad that some of this hit the fan this time so Kami didn't have to leave alone like 2 of her past "partners" did and then felt completely isolated for taking the HIGHER road and keeping the site quiet and drama free. I am only sorry they didn't speak out for fear of retaliation since this whole awful scenario could then have been prevented. I am so sorry Kami, but I am glad to see that this site's lack of integrity has now come to light, it has been there since the beginning and been hidden under partner after partner after partner.

Sarah you came after I had left but I more than commend you for standing beside Kami, she needs it and most of all deserves it for all of HER hard work on that site!!! Good for you Sarah!

Hugs to you Shauna! Sorry to hear that you have to be a part of the not also so nice digi world. It is quite clear from all the comments that you have a lot of love and support in the digi world, including myself.
You will land well no matter where that is.
Happy Easter

Truth is a relative term, Anonymous. There are always two sides to every arguement. Since this is Shauna's blog, I'd say she's well within her rights to post or not post any gosh darn thing she wants.

I personally wouldn't leave any negative comments about myself on MY blog if the writer didn't have the guts to sign their name to it. It's not very impressive to verbally bash someone under the Anonymous label.

Just my 2 cents.

I am so impressed with your ability to stand up for what is right. I'm sending you ((hugs)) and well wishes. Kami is blessed to have you as her friend.

Shauna,

I'm sure you'll be rewarded in the future in many ways for standing true to your principles. While it's not always easy to do so, taking the high road is always the right thing to do. You are to be commended! Many blessings to you and to yours. I will pray that you find the perfect new "home" for your wonderful creations.

I just found you today and wow, it seems like you've been through a lot in the last couple of days. I don't know how this works, but I really enjoy it when people just sell right off their blogs. Might you be able to just sell your products right here? For those of us who are not into "forums" that is a real wonderful option. Possibly it would carry you through until you find another site, and maybe if it works out you might just leave them available here also for those of us who prefer purchasing that way.

Thank you for this beautiful gift, I am looking forward to checking out the rest of your blog.

Wow, that was sooo unprofessional for them to have shut down your shop AND your forum access without even contacting you. I think we know who to blame for that one! I think it's great that you stood up for your friend- more people should! I'm sure it won't be long before you find the perfect place for your designs!

Thanks for the beautiful kit! LOVE it!

I really do appreciate you offering the Spring Pansies kit to all of us!!! I didn't post on the 18th, so I am especially grateful. I am going to sign up for your FeedBurner notifications so it's not a week or two between my visits to your site!
PS> I lovelovelove the Sunshine collab stuff!! :-D

You did a good, honorable thing! Of course you feel down about the whole thing. Perfectly understandable. Things will look better soon!
By the way, I made a layout using the Spring Pansies (using Doris Castle's Blog Party Template):

The kit used Katie's favorite colors!!
Just wanted to share!

I'm new to your blog. I'm sorry about what happened to you at DC. I absolutely adore your kits though. You have such great talent. I can't wait to see more from you.

I stumbled onto this post and am very grateful for this generous gift - I love pansies!

I haven't poked around too much yet, but I'm thinking things have worked out since last March. I wish you continued blessings!!

Bummer on moving to NJ from HI!! DH is Nat'l Guard so I'm now familiar with the single-parent gig, but I can't imagine moving every few years! My sister married AF and they are leaving for a 3-year stint in Japan in a couple of weeks - talk about adventure! I'm excited because I WILL go visit her and hope to take the kids -that doesn't come along every day!

Take Care,
Angel
